Margaret Hixon Griffith

Biography

Houston native Margaret Griffith works in oils, often times painting on birch wood panels. Many of her pieces are based upon her time spent outdoors, particularly in Maine. The rhythm of nature is a strong element within her paintings. With a keen eye for composition and color relationships, her representational works border on the abstract.

While in high school, Margaret took painting classes from the color field painter, Lamar Briggs. This formative experience sparked her desire to study art history and ultimately to become an artist. Time spent during the 80’s living and working in New York exposed her to many artists and helped to define her path.

When Margaret is not in her Sabine Street studio she can be found outside with her dog Woody, sailing, or riding a horse. She finds that days are just not long enough, even those long summer days in Maine.
