Ty Nathan Clark

Biography

Ty Nathan Clark has created across multiple genres since age four, inspired by his uncle Conway “Jiggs” Pierson, world-renowned sculptor and Raku artist. In 2021, he founded the Ty Nathan Clark Artist Mentorship Program, now comprising 68 alumni from 21 countries.

 

The artist has traveled to five continents, living and creating in over 20 countries. Culture Trip named him one of ten contemporary Austin artists to watch (2017, 2019). His award-winning film Jump Shot was an official SXSW Film Festival selection in 2019. He completed his first novel in 2020 and co-launched the Just Make Art podcast with Nathan Terborg in 2023, gaining international following. In 2025, he was selected for the prestigious Marfa Invitational.

 

Besides his uncle’s influence, Ty studied under American sculptor William Catling and Japanese-American abstract painter Makoto Fujimura. For two decades, he has spearheaded global collaborations advancing dialogue around arts, culture, and community building. He has exhibited at Delaware Contemporary Museum, Art Center Waco, and Goss Michael Gallery.

 

Ty creates from his Waco, Texas studio with his wife Mande, exhibiting in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Austin, Miami, and New York.
